CMT, along with the American Planning Association Missouri Chapter (APA MO), Trailnet, the St. Louis Count’s Department of Planning and the St. Louis County’s Department of Transportation provided a pop-up crosswalk and traffic calming demonstration on West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson, MO on Saturday, July 15.
The event consisted of using paint, painted tires/cones and signage to temporarily set-up a mid-block crosswalk between Canfield Drive & Ferguson Avenue. Tents, snacks and water were provided and team members engaged the public. Observations were noted regarding vehicle speeds, jaywalking, pedestrian crossing usage as well as driver compliance. The public was asked questions regarding their feelings of a mid-block crossing. This data will inform future design solutions that the CMT team recommends for the corridor.
