Group VI Modifications
Washington Dulles International Airport
Washington, D.C.

CMT has been providing ongoing airfield development and rehabilitation services at Dulles International Airport since 1982, beginning with a comprehensive Pavement Management Plan. CMT recently completed a comprehensive analysis of the airfield's ability to accommodate the very large Airbus A380 aircraft. With its large wingspan, the A380 falls into the FAA's Design Group (DG) VI category. While many aspects of the airfield configuration meet DG VI criteria, not all components are in full compliance. The study evaluated geometry, markings, lgihting and pavement strength for compliance with DG VI criteria.

In addition, construction phasing, jet blast, and ground movement impacts were summarized. The study will allow Metro Washington Airports Authority personnel to plan and prioritize necessary changes to the airfield faclities and infrastructure. Estimated costs for various modification scenarios were provided.
