Concrete Solutions for Sustainability
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport

St. Louis, Missouri

The Lambert Taxiway Delta Reconstruction project represents how sustainability can be achieved through the reuse of concrete and other recyclable materials on a major airfield project while maintaining budgets, schedules, and quality. CMT combined existing techniques and materials in cost-effective ways to minimize the environmental impact of the project while achieving the long service-life-durability demanded by the airport users.

The location of this project has been described as one of the most sensitive areas on the airfield, outside of the intersection of two runways. In order to minimize the impact of this work on airport operations, all aspects of the design including paving lane and jointing layout, drainage considerations, electrical continuity, and subsurface drainage were coordinated into the phasing plan.

CMT has worked at Lambert since 1995 and has completed many rehabilitation and reconstruction projects during that time, while also providing oversight for the airport’s Pavement Management System.
