Open Road Tolling Conversion
Chicago, Illinois
The Illinois Tollway, as part of their Congestion Relief Program (CRP), initiated an aggressive plan to convert all mainline plazas on their system to Open Road Tolling within about a 20 month period. This created a shortened design period (of about 6-9 months including Master Planning) an a construction period of less than a year on most plazas. This was accomplished with a concentrated effort of all stakeholders from the owner to the engineering and construction communities.
CMT was one of the prime consultants selected to lead the design efforts of six plazas for Master Planning and two plazas for design. Our team consisted of six other subconsultants and included the widening and reconstruction of five bridges as well as the removal and replacement of concrete pavements, shoulders and appurtenances.
CMT provided Phase II engineering services for the preparation of contract plans and specifications and all project related permits for the proposed Open Road Toll Plaza conversions at two mainline toll plazas on the Northwest Tollway at M.P.1.7. Plaza 1 (Devon) and M.P.0.6. (River Road) in Cook County, Illinois.
