Prairie Crossing Commercial Development

The Prairie Crossing commercial development features central Illinois' first auto mall, hotels, restaurants, a big-box retailer, and other retail outlets. Because it broke ground along an interstate in a largely undeveloped area that is expected to see major growth in the future, CMT was asked to address some significant roadway issues related to increased traffic, along with the challenge of developing a site for a diverse group of tenants.
CMT oversaw all civil engineering and planning activities associated with the master development of the site, as well as site engineering for several of the major tenants, including the Meijer store that serves as the development's anchor. Because the site was strategically located along a future east-west arterial for the city's growing south side, extensive coordination with city and state transportation engineers was required to assess alternatives. CMT conducted a Traffic Impact Study and an Intersection Design Study that resulted in the relocation of a major intersection along a state route.
