West Chicago Water Treatment Plant
West Chicago, Illinois
The need to meet federal potable water regulations required the City of West Chicago, Illinois to develop new water treatment facilities in a short time frame. CMT was retained to provide design and construction phase services, as well as to obtain permitting for an eight MGD lime softening treatment facility to serve the community.
CMT, in association with the city, developed site evaluations and alternative analyses for potential locations for the facilities. The site chosen for the plant was located on two floodplain maps that contained conflicting information concerning the regulatory base flood elevations. CMT coordinated with city, county, state, and federal agencies to remedy the discrepancy and facilitate the permitting process within the project timeline. The 100-year flood-rated facility, which will serve the city's 25,000 residents along with local businesses, was completed on time and within budget.
This project received a 2006 Special Achievement Award from the ACEC - Illinois.
