NOV 30, 2011: Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) received an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies – Missouri (ACEC-MO) for its work at the new Branson West Airport. CMT served as project manager and provided design services to the City of West Branson for the airport. The project will be officially recognized at the organization’s annual awards luncheon on February 11, 2012.
Given the rugged and varied topography in the Ozark Mountain region where the airport is located, the task of laying down a flat, 5,000-foot runway and associated taxiways required a commitment from the city, and the resourcefulness and experience of the engineering consultant. The contrast between the flat lines of the completed airport and the steep slopes and severe drop-offs in the surrounding terrain is a visual testament to the engineering ingenuity that went into this project. Several variations of erosion control matting and turf reinforcement were used due to extreme differences in slope. Protecting important environmental resources, such as Table Rock Lake, was a major priority, and was carried out through careful efforts to stabilize surfaces that were disturbed during construction to prevent runoff from the construction site.
CMT would like to thank ACEC-MO for recognizing the Branson West Airport project as an example of engineering excellence.
