Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

Peru, Indiana

CMT served as project manager for the Grissom Aeroplex Wastewater Treatment Upgrade Project that replaced an existing and out-of-date facility the City of Peru had acquired from the U.S. Air Force. The firm provided preliminary design, design, bidding, and limited construction services. These items included evaluating of alternatives, submitting the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) to State Revolving Fund Agency (SRF), submitting bid documents for approval to Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and permitting assistance.

A highlight of this project was the adaptive reuse of existing assets in the design of the new plant. The conversion of large existing tanks into the new Vertical Loop Reactor (VLR) system, along with the replacement of old components with more energy efficient options, resulted in a sustainable and cost-saving solution that also addressed the limited options available on a tightly constrained site.

Overall, the project achieved its design objective, was completed on schedule, and continues to deliver cost savings to the client. The City of Peru was pleased with CMT’s performance and rated the firm with a score of nine out of ten in a client satisfaction survey.
