Springfield-Branson International Airport General Aviation Facility

Accommodating International Federal Inspection Services

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) General Aviation Facility (GAF)

City of Springfield, MO - Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF)
To comply with new facility standards, Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) was engaged by the City of Springfield as owner and operator of the Springfield-Branson National Airport to plan, design, and construct a replacement U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) General Aviation Facility (GAF). The planning phase of the study included the evaluation of both GAF and Federal Inspection Service (FIS) facilities to ensure that the airport would be able to accommodate each facility type if needed. Multiple locations were evaluĀated including phased GAF/FIS development options. Design services included systematic and continuous reviews and design review meetings with the CBP to ensure continued compliance with facility standards.

The selected location for the GAF involved the reuse of a previous commercial passenger processing area and holdroom, thus, evaluation of the existing building systems and configuration was essential to meet CBP site and security requirements. A limited development budget drove the need for the design team to evaluate the purpose of individual facility spaces with the goal of minimizing space needs and consolidating common functions into single locations. Also, as the facility was a turn-key design, numerous design reviews and signoffs were employed to minimize change orders during the construction phase.
