Toledo Express Airport
Primary Runway Rehabilitation
Toledo, Ohio |

|
Because the crosswind runway at Toledo (OH) Express Airport couldn’t accommodate a majority of the airport’s air carrier operations, it was crucial that the disruption to operations on the primary runway be minimized during its rehabilitation. The project consisted of overlaying the main runway, constructing new shoulders on the runway, and installing new touchdown zone and centerline lights.
CMT’s team of engineers and planners coordinated with airport staff and users to evaluate alternatives for project sequencing. It was determined that a sequence that combined temporary runway threshold displacements and off-peak construction would best minimize disruption. During construction, weekly meetings were held to communicate planned activities and user impacts. As a result of the initial planning and the ongoing communication during construction, the project was successfully completed ahead of schedule and with minimal impact to users’ operating schedules.
CMT received a Council of Engineering Companies/Illinois Merit Award and a Quality Award for Asphalt Paving from Flexible Paving, Inc. for their work on this project. |
