Adams Street Commissioner Speach

In an address to the City Club of Chicago, Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld updated guests of the civic organization on the tremendous achievements that have been made in improving the city’s infrastructure over the past six years. Among the landmark projects Commissioner Scheinfeld highlighted was the recently completed Adams Street Bridge Reconstruction, on which CMT provided project management and design services.

“This is a great example of the complexity of our urban transportation infrastructure here in Chicago. These structures provide a critical link to improve the safety and mobility of pedestrians, motorists, Metra and Amtrak trains, and boaters. It’s a reminder of how investments into our city’s infrastructure often also benefit the larger region,” she said.

The project involved the removal and replacement of the existing 282-foot, six-span viaduct structure over the north concourse of the Chicago Union Station tracks, and removal and replacement of the fixed spans of the bascule bridge that carries Adams Street over the South Branch of the Chicago River. Also included was the reconstruction of the existing urban roadway, intersection reconstruction, new intersection signals, new storm drainage system, and new ornamental street lighting.

CMT is proud of the role we are playing in helping Chicago improve its infrastructure, while enhancing the quality of life for its residents and spurring economic development.
