Solar Power project ribbon cutting 09282017

Over 200 people attended the Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) Solar Power Open House and Ribbon Cutting event held at CMT’s headquarters Thursday, September 28, 2017.  Held in conjunction with the Greater Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours, many local dignitaries, project partners, clients, business leaders and employees attended to see the solar installation and hear about the project’s success.

The project is the largest solar energy system in Springfield, IL and represents a major private investment in renewable energy by an Illinois company.  Providing up to 90% of the buildings energy needs, 10,000 tons of CO2 will be reduced over the next 25 years; the equivalent of planting 218,000 trees.

This project is a prominent local example of the emerging trend in renewable energy, and in particular, solar power. The new 394 k.w.p. solar plant system highlights how organizations can leverage both their facilities and site to maximize solar benefits. A unique feature of our project is a solar carport system, considered to be the largest of its kind in Illinois, according to WCP Solar Services, a major provider of solar systems in the state. The construction of the project also showcases successful outcomes from the 2016 Illinois Future Energy Jobs Act.
