CMT’s Derek Cochran, representative of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers MATHCOUNTS Planning Committee, also volunteered at the annual Capital Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition. Matt Overbey from CMT also volunteered by moderating the event. The competition was held Saturday, February 2 at Lincoln Land Community College.
At the competition were 45 students from teams from Franklin Middle School, Glenwood Middle School, Iles School, Lincoln Magnet School and Rochester Junior High School. Franklin Middle School’s team won first place in the team portion of the competition and Glenwood Middle School won second place. Third, fourth and fifth places for the team portion were earned by Lincoln Magnet School, Rochester Junior High School and Iles School, respectively. Franklin Middle School will move on to the state competition on March 23 in Lisle, IL. Individual awards were also given.
