Matt Overbey Graduates from the FBI Citizens Academy

Congratulations to Matt Overbey, CMT Senior Transportation Engineer, for graduating from the FBI Springfield Citizen Academy.

The FBI Citizen Academy programs give business, religious, civic, and community leaders an inside look at the FBI. Classes meet in the evenings in FBI field offices around the country with the mission to foster a greater understanding of the role of federal law enforcement in the community. Candidates are nominated by FBI employees, former Citizens Academy graduates, and community leaders.

Mr. Overbey learned about the FBI Citizens Academy while participating in the Leadership Springfield program organized by the Greater Springfield (IL) Chamber of Commerce. He was nominated by Chief Defense Counsel Angela Bray.

Mr. Overbey’s experiences in the local program included presentations on counterintelligence, cyber intelligence, weapons of mass destruction, chemical/biological terrorism, deadly force policy, and violent crimes. He visited the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center in Decatur where the 2020 FBI Citizens Academy Class split into two groups to get some simulated training like serving a warrant, executing an arrest, performing a search while collecting evidence, and interviewing a suspect.
