The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana recently awarded the SR 46 and SR 11 Interchange and Railroad Overpass with the Honor Award at its 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards. CMT was the Engineer-of-Record for this project, providing numerous design disciplines including roadway, bridge, drainage, lighting, and traffic. CMT also provided public involvement, mitigation design, utility coordination, and project management.

The SR 46 and SR 11 Interchange and Railroad Overpass is a case study for how municipalities and private stakeholders can invest in their communities by engaging in cost-sharing with INDOT. The City of Columbus, L&I Railroad, Cummins, and INDOT joined forces to successfully have the interchange constructed.

The interchange and overpass design provided a solution to long-standing commuter delays and safety issues, as well as enabled future plans to increase rail traffic. The ramp junction with SR 11 also implements a Green-T intersection, which is a first of its kind in Indiana. CMT is proud to have played a part in this project and thankful to ACEC-IN for this distinguished award.
