A C-17 aircraft makes its first landing, since Pope Army Airfield’s runway reopened Thursday, Oct. 4, 2021, after being closed nearly four months for repairs. Contributed/Army
Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, required the runway to be reconstructed in just 4 months during a full runway closure. Therefore, CMT incorporated time-saving features in the design to facilitate rapid reconstruction like a cement-modified subgrade to create a stable, weather-proof construction platform and using geotextile fabric instead of aggregate base for a separation layer beneath the open-graded drainage layer.
