On February 11 at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL, CMT employees who are members of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers – Capital Chapter used their engineering skills to execute the annual MATHCOUNTS® competition. Eighteen junior high school students from Springfield, Chatham, and Lincoln, IL, competed for a chance to advance to the state competition. Grace Kurcab, chapter president, and Derek Cochran, past president, proctored the competition, while representative Hayden Hamilton graded students’ tests. Chapter President-elect Evan Ackerson coordinated and moderated the event.

The Franklin Middle School team placed first, advancing the team to the state competition. Glenwood Middle School placed second, and Lincoln Magnet School placed third. As for the individual awards, two students will advance.

Thank you to our CMTers who volunteered for the junior high school MATHCOUNTS® competition in Springfield, IL, and for your involvement with the ISPE – Capital Chapter!
