At its Spring 2024 Banquet, the Purdue University Chapter of Chi Epsilon recognized Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) CEO and Board Chair William Bailey, PE, SE, with the esteemed Chi Epsilon Chapter Honor Member Award. The Chi Epsilon Chapter Honor Member award is a distinguished recognition reserved for exceptional civil engineers by the individual chapters of Chi Epsilon, the national honor society for civil engineering founded in 1922.
“I am deeply honored to have received this recognition from the Purdue Chapter of Chi Epsilon,” Bailey said. “Upon my initiation as a college junior in 1986, Chi Epsilon instilled in me a great and lasting reverence for the organization’s guiding pillars and commitment to advancing the civil engineering profession. It is humbling to be recognized and counted among fellow civil engineering professionals who have demonstrated such devotedness to our shared values as Chi Epsilon members.”

The Purdue University chapter of Chi Epsilon was established in 1929 and is the 11th chapter of the organization. Across its nearly 100-year history, the chapter has remained dedicated to ensuring that the four pillars of the honor society – Scholarship, Character, Practicality, and Sociability – are upheld. Membership in the honor society is open to civil engineering students in the top third of their junior or senior class.
Upon his graduation from Purdue in 1989, Bailey joined CMT as a structural engineer and spent the first 15 years of his career focused on structural engineering projects ranging from major river and interchange bridge designs to buildings and water and wastewater treatment projects. In 2008, he became manager of the firm’s newly established Indianapolis branch office, which experienced considerable growth under his direction. Prior to assuming his current role as CEO and Board Chair, Bailey also served the firm in diverse leadership roles including chief structural engineer, chief human resource officer, and president. Bailey holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University, and in 2021, was honored with the prestigious Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award presented by the university’s Lyles School of Civil Engineering.
