CMT Water Resources Engineer Nate Murphy, PE, and Building and Site Services Engineer Eric Winkelman, EI, recently traveled to Bolivia with the Engineers Without Borders USA – Gateway Professional Chapter (EWB STL) to conduct an initial water assessment for a community water and sanitation project in the Community of Khasu.
Drawing on their engineering expertise, Nate and Eric joined fellow EWB STL volunteers to meet with community members, evaluate existing water conditions, and gather information that will help guide an upcoming water and sanitation project. The team split into two groups, with one assessing local water sources while the other visited 60 households to collect baseline community data and better understand the Community’s needs.
The assessment marks an important first step in developing a sustainable, community-owned solution that can improve access to reliable water resources. Through its partnership model, EWB STL works alongside underserved communities around the world to plan and deliver infrastructure projects that create lasting impact.
Nate and Eric have both played active leadership roles within EWB STL, with Nate serving as past chapter president and Eric currently serving as vice president. Also, Nate is the co-lead for the project in Khasu and has led the assessment trip in the community.
