Award-Winning Comprehensive Plan Update for Fast-Growing City

Marshfield Community Growth Plan

City of Marshfield, MO

Following adoption, the effective implementation of a comprehensive plan can be one of the most challenging aspects for a community.  It requires regular checks to be sure goals and objectives are being consistently pursued over a 10-20 year timeframe. The Marshfield Community Growth Plan’s implementation element is a best practice model where plan objectives and action items are assigned a completion date and a specific community partner (in addition to the city) responsible for its long-term success.

Public utility improvements such as sanitary sewer extensions and roadway improvements represent the most costly capital costs to a community. Long-range planning of these expensive facilities is critical but can also be hard to predict in a changing market. Located at the highest point in five large watersheds, careful planning for sanitary sewer facilities in Marshfield was critical.  The Marshfield Community Growth Plan effectively identified ideal locations for sanitary sewer facilities to minimize the use of lift stations and maximize growth potential wherever the market may lead in the years ahead.
