Ongoing GIS and Asset Management
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and FAA Electronic Airport Layout Plan (eALP) Pilot Program
Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) provides ongoing GIS services to enhance the airport’s asset management capabilities. Datasets include pavement inventories, property legal data, utilities, environmental resources, airspace and obstruction data, and other features of aeronautical relevance. To help advance the airport’s program, we worked with the FAA to have the airport included in the eALP Pilot Program, a key step to validating the agency’s new AGIS criteria and processing. Specific goals associated with this project included budget and schedule adherence and the formulation of an approach to update and convert existing airport GIS data to FAA’s GIS standards
We utilized accelerated survey and attribution data collection techniques to minimize data acquisition time especially in airfield movement areas. Updated aerial mapping was also essential to the process to resolve conflicts in legacy data and paper documents. CMT provided internal quality control and assurance prior to review and approval by FAA and NGS. CMT worked with the FAA to discuss post-project lessons learned and to evaluate the overall project – allowing other airport sponsors to benefit from this project approach. Key features include conversion of as-built record drawings, field attribution (700+ fields of information) and utilization of existing GIS data maintained by CMT to streamline the process.
CMT is also assisting in integrating the airport’s GIS into Cityworks.
