Improving Connectivity With a Tight Diamond Interchange
David Hoekel Parkway Interchange at I-70
City of Wentzville, MO
CMT led the design of a tight diamond interchange to enhance connectivity and alleviate congestion along the critical thoroughfare. The project included two bridges carrying David Hoekel Parkway over I-70 and the Norfolk Southern Railroad, large mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls supporting bridge end fills, and outer road relocations.
Extensive railroad coordination was essential for the success of the project. CMT’s design, including the innovative interchange type and alignment changes, reduced the cost of the interchange by $5.9 million, a 20% savings over the concept originally considered. A successful cost share application with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) helped the city secure the remaining funding to complete the project.
