Memorial Medical Center Campus Expansion
Medical Center Campus Expansion
Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) provided civil and site services for this $150 million expansion, the hospital’s largest in almost 70 years. The project included a 114,000-sf addition that accommodates 114 new patient rooms and a 35,000-sf addition for a new surgical center. The project also included civil and site engineering services for a new, 50,000-sf learning and innovation center, energy plant improvements, a new surface parking lot, and lobby and front entrance renovations.
Coordinating project staging for each phase of construction was critical in maintaining seamless service and access for patients, staff and visitors of the multi-facility campus. Design and construction was responsive to a host of needed civil infrastructure issues consistent with very old facilities including undocumented wells, undocumented foundations, brick combined sewers requiring rehabilitation and/or relocation, and patching of brick streets prior to overlay. Consulting was also provided for permits and approvals, stormwater management, roadway improvements, utility relocations, site grading, traffic control plans, land surveying, and construction administration services.
A significant challenge on the project was overcoming site constraints to accommodate the surgical center. CMT responded with a plan that included the narrowing of an adjacent street, and street right-of-way vacations. CMT assisted the client in coordinating these improvements with the city and related agencies.
I cannot say enough good things about the product delivery of CMT. CMT has provided top notch project managers that listen to the customer and deliver sound, functional solutions that meet project objectives and code. CMT has developed many relationships based on trust and professionalism with key city and county administrators that enable them to discuss problems and to develop collaborative solutions to meet my needs as a customer. CMT takes care of the details before most people realize there could be an issue.
