A New General Aviation Airport in the Ozarks
New General Aviation Airport
Branson West, Missouri is located in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, and neighbor to the popular tourist destination that attracts millions of visitors each year. To better serve the general aviation needs of this growing region, the City of Branson West set out on an ambitious journey to build a new airport. They asked Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) to help get them there.
We were selected in 2008 to provide design and construction phase services for the development of their new general aviation airport. This project resulted in a new 5,000-foot x 75-foot runway, full parallel taxiway, terminal apron areas, fueling apron, T-hangar taxiways and landside access roadways and parking lots. Sitting amid the mountains, the airport site contained significant design and construction challenges associated with the steep sloped topography of the area. To mitigate soil erosion around the airport, special techniques were used to promote establishment of turf, including hydraulically applied mulch, erosion control mats and special seeding mixtures.
The completion of the $18.5 million project represents the culmination of a decades-long effort that required the commitment and support of the community. CMT is proud that they asked us to go along for the ride.
I have over 30 years experience with municipal and civic related projects and worked with many firms over the years, and Ty Sander and the CMT team have gone above and beyond. The level of communications was outstanding, I was always able to reach someone when I needed to.
