Facilitating Airside Operations

The new 50,000 SF Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) Building at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport was designed and constructed to facilitate the airport’s airside operations, including staff, vehicles, equipment and materials. The new facility has the capacity to store over 20 large plow and blower vehicles along with 10 smaller vehicles or equipment. The building includes approximately 5,000 SF of mezzanine storage for vehicle accessory storage. Areas in the vehicular portion of the building include, a wash bay, two maintenance bays, a welding shop, vehicle maintenance bay storage and a mechanic’s office. Amenities of the vehicle storage area include, floor and ceiling radiant heating systems, mechanical ventilation, six large-scale ceiling fans, clerestory natural light, compressed air, water and electrical connections throughout, maintenance bay lifts and crane, and center-of-building vehicle drive-through lane. Two concrete-walled interior material bays accommodate over 1600 SF of sand and deicer material storage. Spaces in the staff portion of the building include, offices, a break-room, a conference room, two sleeping rooms, restrooms, locker rooms, and ancillary mechanical, electrical, plumbing and storage rooms. Additional site and utility related improvements include existing building demolition, grading, storm water inlets and piping, parking lot, drives and taxiway tie-ins, retaining wall, fuel farm, incinerator, lift station and security gates.
