More Than 150 Years in the Making
Plank Road Realignment
While the public often sees road construction as a nuisance, and any outlay of taxpayer dollars as potentially wasteful, good community relations can positively change those perceptions. This was the case in the Village of Burlington where Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) engaged stakeholders and earned their buy-in on a roadway project that improved safety, capacity, operations and drainage, while limiting impacts to those along its corridor.
CMT was selected by the Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) to provide engineering services for the realignment of Plank Road in Burlington, IL. Plank Road is a principle county arterial that connects the village to Sycamore to the west and Elgin to the east. Plank Road had an offset alignment of approximately 200 feet in downtown Burlington. This offset created two “T” intersections with poor traffic operations. The purpose of the project was to eliminate the offset alignment in order to improve safety, capacity and operations.
